About Goodrich

The story of Goodrich first began in 1869 when Benjamin Goodrich acquired the Hudson River Rubber Company. In 1912, the B.F. Goodrich Company purchased the Diamond Rubber Company, merging the two while retaining the Diamond brand name and creating a Diamond Rubber Company subsidiary. Around this time, B.F. Goodrich also entered a joint venture with Yokohama Cable Manufacturing to establish the Yokohama Rubber Company.

From the 1930’s to the 1950’s, B.F. Goodrich began producing radios, selling them under the brand name “Mantola”. During the course of World War II, Goodrich also undertook various military production contracts, and they were ranked 67th among United States corporations. A year after the war ended, the company purchased a new plant in Troy, Ohio, and it was at this time that they began producing wheels and brakes for various aircraft types.

By 1986, Goodrich established themselves as an S&P 500-listed company, operating in both tire and rubber production. That same year, Uniroyal Inc.’s tire segment was merged with the B.F. Goodrich Company, forming the Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Company. With this merger, the company began to see increased production and sales. In 1988, The Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Company was acquired by the Michelin Group, and Goodrich decided to leave the tire business to focus on new avenues with chemical and aerospace products. Leading into their 2012 acquisition by United Technologies Corporation, Goodrich acquired multiple companies specializing in aerospace, industrial, and chemical products.
