About Pratt & Whitney
Pratt & Whitney was formed in 1925 when entrepreneur Frederick Rentschler, along with others, formed the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Company with the help of Pratt & Whitney Machine Tool. Their first product was an aircraft engine, the R-1340 Wasp, which found much use by the United States Navy. Their subsequent engine also proved very popular, spearheading the Wasp engine series that still sees use in agricultural aircraft to this day. With their newfound success, the company went on to develop more air-cooled, radial aircraft engines. In 1929, Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Company was merged alongside others to become the United Aircraft and Transport Corporation (UATC). The company was allowed to keep their name, and soon UATC became United Aircraft Corporation, and then later UTC in 1975. In April of 2020, UTC was merged with Raytheon Company, becoming Raytheon Technologies. Recently, the company continues to work on contracts for the US Defense Department, as well as the development of products for aerospace and electricity generation.
