Aviation Battery Parts

Most electrical systems on  aircraft integrate a redundancy battery system; if other power drivers fail, the battery system will support flight critical avionics components. Certain batteries are also used as actuators for APUs, generators, and occasionally an engine. Lastly, they are also used to provide power to multiple systems such as emergency doors, AED’s, auxiliary performance computers, floor path lighting, and others.  Most aircraft batteries are either primary use (single) or secondary use (rechargeable). Battery parts and components include battery boxes, cover assemblies, pressure plates, battery chargers, and more. 

The most common batteries utilized for aviation applications include lead acid batteries, nickel cadmium batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries, lithium-ion/lithium-polymer, and lithium metal batteries; lead acid and nickel-cadmium are the two most prevalently used batteries. Lead acid batteries are most commonly used within general aviation for single-engine propeller driven aircraft; in comparison, valve-regulated lead acid batteries are generally used for propeller driven or turbine driven aircraft. NiCd batteries are referred to as sealed batteries that transmit 12 to 24 volts.

Batteries are installed with fault protection systems to ensure they are in good condition and will not pose a risk to the aircraft. These systems monitor overheat conditions, shorted circuit, overcharging, and other potential hazards associated with battery use.
