Ground support equipment refers to any equipment or tooling used for servicing an aircraft. These services include maintenance, fueling, cleaning, baggage loading, lifting, lavatory and water service, aircraft towing, and the like. Airlines, airports, line stations and MRO’s all require some degree of GSE and tooling. Adequate equipment and tooling are specific to aircraft series and are designated in the maintenance and operation manuals for the aircraft. The proper GSE equipment and tooling can be acquired from GSE manufacturer licensees; the licenses are granted to MFR’s that are authorized to design and manufacture GSE according to individual
GSE tooling typically refers to smaller scale equipment and tools used in servicing an aircraft. The amount and type of tooling needed by an operator is dependent upon its application; airplane turnarounds, C-checks, and unscheduled maintenance will all require a different assemblage of tooling.Tooling, unlike equipment, is sometimes only manufactured by the same MFR as the component requiring maintenance.
